Leading a healthy lifestyle means eating right, getting enough sleep, and exercising regularly. What do you do if exercise is that one thing that you can't bring yourself to follow through with on a regular basis? We lead busy lives and can always find a reason or two not to exercise. What if you allow yourself to start slowly? Think about these easy steps:



-Take an extra flight of stairs instead of the elevator.



-Instead of priding yourself in finding the closest parking spot, cheer yourself when you park a little further away and walk to your destination.



-Walk in place or do some stretching in front of the TV during commercials.



-Every hour or two, stop work and do some stretching.



-Reduce emails and phone calls and take a walk to speak with a co-worker.



-Walk around the block after lunch - this simple act will make a difference in your level of energy throughout the afternoon.



-Turn cleaning the house into an exercise experience.

Different Types of Exercising



If you are ready to start a formal fitness program in your life, find an activity that you enjoy doing. Don't choose an exercise program because everyone else in doing it. If you hate lifting weights or walking on the treadmill, find something that you love to do that gets you up and moving. You'll be far more successful if you like the activity.



There are different types of exercise including running, biking, aerobic classes, yoga, and walking. The best strategy for incorporating beneficial exercise into your lifestyle is to do a variety of exercises. For instance, a good exercise regimen will include both cardio (biking, swimming, running) with weight training.

Some popular choices of group exercises include belly dancing, kickboxing, hip-hop dance, and all levels of step classes. When you exercise with a group of people you're often more motivated to keep going since being part of a group with the similar goal of getting in shape is a powerful incentive.



There are specific Chinese forms of exercise that you may want to explore:



-T'ai Chi. This form of Chinese exercise uses movement to achieve peace and harmony in your mind and body. -Yoga. Yoga uses certain body postures to reduce stress, promote relaxation, and relieve the physical symptoms of ill health.



-Martial arts. Use a variety of marital arts, such as Kung Fu, to incorporate exercise into your daily routine.



-Qi Gong. This form of Chinese activity combines breathing exercises and mental exercises to prevent as well as treat health problems and disease.



Final Thoughts



One mistake that many people make when they're deciding to get into shape is to tackle the entire concept of "fitness" at one time. Incorporating fitness into your life takes time and won't happen overnight. Your body, mind, and spirit need time to adjust to the many changes that will be happening as you start to add exercise to your daily routine. This is why fitness in small steps is so important and will ensure that you're less likely to quit when you become overwhelmed with the changes in your life.

For more concentration, focus on the space between the breath. The space where the exhale becomes the inhale and the inhale becomes the exhale, etc.

Physical or Mental Disorders - Depression




Studies have shown that depression due to gender bias, often gets in the way of correct diagnosis of psychosocial disorders. In one study, for instance, 175 mental health professionals those are suffering from depression or physical or mental disorder, of both genders, were asked to diagnose a patient based upon a summarized case history. Some of the professionals were told that the patient was male, others that the patient was female. The gender of the patient made a substantial difference in the diagnosis given(though the gender of the clinician did not). When subjects thought the patient was female, they were more likely to diagnose hysterical personality, a "women's disorder." When they believed the patient to be male, the more likely diagnosis was antisocial personality, a "male disorder."



A major controversy regarding gender bias has been the inclusion of a "provisional" diagnosis for premenstrual syndrome(PMS) in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders(fourth edition; known as DSM-IV). The provisional inclusion, in an appendix to DSM-IV, signals that PMS should come in for further study and may be included as an approved diagnosis in future editions of the DSM. In other words, PMS could be considered a mental disorder in the future. Depression may be a cause of premenstrual syndrome.



PMS is characterized by depression, irritability, and other symptoms of increased stress typically occurring just prior to menstruation and lasting for a day or two. A more severe case of PMS is known as premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or PMDD. The distinction between these disorders is that while PMS is somewhat disruptive and uncomfortable, it does not interfere with the way a woman functions from day to day; PMDD does. To be diagnosed with PMDD, a woman must have at least five symptoms of PMS for a week to 10 days, with at least one symptom being serious enough to interfere with her ability to function at work or at home. In these more severe cases, antidepressants may be prescribed. The point of contention lies in whether administering this treatment indicates that PMDD is viewed as a mental disorder as opposed to a physical disorder. The role of a carer for a mentally ill loved is many and varied and without doubt, a stressful one. There are stages of shock, disbelief, acceptance and then coping to deal with.



If you are dealing with your caring role on a day to day basis then it is important that you learn as quick as you can, strategies to cope with various situations. There will be many different situations to deal with depending on the illness beng dealt with. Some illnesses can have the sufferer going through changing moods, paranoia, bad attitudes and more within minutes. All these changes make it very hard for the carer to cope.



As time goes along and you start experiencing repetition in the problems you can start looking for early warning signs of illness. By doing this strategies can be set up and both the carer and sufferer can have discussions on action to be taken in the future. I have often heard it said, "But he/she is so ill I just cant discuss anything", and yes, at times this may be true. Keeping in mind the type of illness you are dealing with, there will more than likely be small windows of time where you will be able to open up some sort of discussion. Sometimes these windows of opportunity are so small and there can be so many issues to be discussed, that you will have to prioritise them. Keeping a note of issues to be discussed can be very beneficial because when you are not trying to remember them as well as everything else it will relieve a certain amount of stress.



A fairly easy to read sign, once you have seen it several times, is the harrowed look in their eyes which could be fear or exhaustion, or in the case of a person with bipolar it could be the opposite, in that they may be in a manic phase and look exhilarated. Early warning signs could range from agitation, pacing, yelling, isolation, not eating, total non-activity, hand signing or other signs depending on the illness involved.



Once you have become skilled at noticing these signs you can deal with it much sooner than you would have and have strategies set up to cope. It could be medication that needs to be addressed,stress over a job, or appointment or whatever it is, but don't delay and if you can foresee trouble ahead you can get hold of doctors and counsellors for back up help.



In the early days of caring life is often lived with the "it will get better soon" attitude, and this may be so for some people, but the reality is, that it may not. Because dealing with the whole situation can be so stressful try to plan ahead for doctors appointments by making notes of concerns you have and questions you want answers to, otherwise there is a good chance you will forget at the time.



As a carer I would encourage you to work on coping strategies as much as helping your loved one. AND coping may mean making sure that you have an interest outside the family just for yourself alone and do it on a regular basis. At certain stages carers find release of stress going to carers support groups, or you just might like to continue a hobby, have a trip to the hairdressers, but do find something you enjoy as it is so important to look after yourself as well. You are doing a very hard job and you deserve to be rewarded for it too!

Are you finding yourself often confused with how many sets and reps you should be doing if you want to gain weight and build muscle as fast as possible? If you are, you are definitely not alone. There are some general rules for this, but there are about just as many exceptions for this rule. But if you're concerned with bulking up and slapping on pounds of muscle on you frame, then I'll make it simple



The general rule for size and strength is to use a relatively high number of sets with low reps; 5 sets of 5, 6 sets of 3; something that looks like this. The amount of reps means that you will fail at around that number, so you're going to use heavy weight.



One thing to keep in mind is whenever I say "heavy" throughout this article, I use it as a relative term. What is heavy for one person is completely different to another, so make sure you understand that.



So, if you want your shoulders to look like you got a pair of football shoulder pads under your shirt, you would do about 5 or 6 sets of between 3 to 6 reps each. Remember, this is only a general rule. The point of low reps is to build strength. If you have read any of my past articles then you know that strength is a big key to size. The low reps means you focus on heavy weight and allow enough rest to increase the weight on a weekly basis.



In a nutshell, if you want to get bigger, you have to get stronger in ALL of the major muscle groups. So structure your sets and reps with this purpose in mind.



Here are some important points to remember:



-Keep it simple; training for size means getting stronger, so don't do too many exercises per muscle group so you can allow enough time and rest to recuperate and get stronger in just one or two compound exercises per muscle



-Use as much power and force in good form during your reps, DON'T do them slow so you can "feel the burn." This will only limit the speed in which you will get stronger. Lower the weight in a controlled manner, but push/pull with all your might to get the weight back up.



-Take your time in between reps - that's right, I said reps. Don't rush them. If you need, take a few quick breaths between reps to gather your strength and focus. This will help you push the extra rep or two that will really boost your size and strength.



-When building up your strength, you will need to rest longer then the normal 60 seconds. For upper body exercises, take 2-3 minutes rest between sets to recover your strength and 3-5 minutes for your legs.



Remember, if you're a hardgainer you need to train with heavy weights. Push the weight up with all the power and muscle you can, take a couple deep breaths, lower the weight slightly slower then when you lifted it, and do another rep. You don't have to count the seconds, but try not to rush your reps or go too slow. You're not trying to run a 50 yard dash but you're not doing tai chi either.

Finally, researchers have observed gender differences in coping strategies, or the response to certain events or stimuli, and have proposed the explanation that women's strategies put them at more risk for depression than do men's strategies. Presented with "a list of things people do when depressed," college students were asked to indicate how likely they were to engage in the behavior outlined in each item on the list. Men were more likely to assert that, "I avoid thinking of reasons why I am depressed," "I do something physical," or "I play sports." Women were more likely to assert that, "I try to determine why 1 am depressed," "I talk to other people about my feelings," and "I cry to relieve the tension." In other words, the men tried to distract themselves from a depressed mood whereas the women tended to focus attention on it. If focusing on depressed feelings intensifies these feelings, women's response style may make them more likely than men to become clinically depressed. This hypothesis has not been directly tested, but some supporting evidence suggests its validity.

Rare Infections

Infection due to breast implants is rare. It happens only one to three percent of the time. When infection does occur, it can bring with it redness, fever, swelling and plenty of discomfort. Some women develop very mild forms of them that cause no problems whatsoever.



When the problem is severe, a surgical incision of the fibrous capsule around the implant is required. This is known as capsulotomy. In other cases, either partial or complete removal of the capsule is necessary. This is referred to as capsulectomy. Approximately 30% to 35% of patients have to cope with recurrent capsule contracture.



Asymmetry (Implant Displacement)

In some instances, the breast implant will not remain in the correct position. It will look as though it is positioned too high, too low, or will fall to one side. In this case, surgical repair must be undertaken to remedy the problem. A slight movement is not a cause for alarm, but a large shift is worth a trip to see the plastic surgeon.



Mammography Problems

Having breast implants may make it difficult for areas of the breast to be seen when a mammography is done. This is less likely to be the case if the surgeon placed the implant under the muscle. For this reason, women who have a history of breast cancer in their family are not good candidates for breast implants.



Autoimmune Disease

The media has reported on a number of occasions that silicone implants are believed to be linked to the development of autoimmune disease. It is important to note that no scientific evidence to date has proven that this is the case.



Deflation
